Hello! And welcome to the Hughes Enterprises Channel
This isn't your typical firearms channel with politics, exploding targets, and corporate/brand sponsors. These videos are a reflection of projects I am working on and there happens to be a camera and an audience present. If you think what I'm working on is interesting -awesome! You'll like what I have in store for future videos. I'm always thinking of innovative ways to make the shooting sports more exciting and accessible to everyone. This tends to be a firearms centered channel because that's what I'm spending most of my free time on. But you will also see videos that include other various collectables, radiation demonstrations, and whatever else I'm doing that others may find interesting! Hopefully you will learn something new watching my videos.

0000 Steel Wool and Oil ☑️
So no CLP? I've heard otherwise
If you want scratches on your gun, go for it
@@HughesEnterprises sorry I'm new so I'm still learning. Why would CLP cause scratches?
@@mssgjoel It’s not slick and thick enough to protect the finish from the steel wool. CLP was designed as a cheap mediocre all-in-one for troops so they don’t have to carry 3 different superior gun products. You need a good bore cleaner for copper/lead/carbon fouling, a good lubricating oil, and a long term metal protectant/wood protectant. One product can’t do all three jobs well.
niiiice !! 😎👍
Worked great! Thank you for sharing.
Glad I was able to save another gun!
When you say “bronze brush “ Does that include a brass brush ? Thanks
Brass is a harder metal and can scratch your finish. Go slow lots of oil check for results
I think this video was made before the latest price increases but this is one of the most reasonable rounds that you or I can reload I am a big fan of it and will probably be buying a Henry rifle to go along with my. Single seven and Taurus TORO 327 NOT CRAZY ABOUT IT BUT AFTER A COUPLE CHANGES MABY I WANT IT TO BE MY EDC cross your fingers for me
Is someone giving you primers or maby you are making your own if so I would love a video
Just a note. I would like to have seen you clear the chamber first before cleaning the rust. Every gun is "loaded" until proven empty.
Every gun is treated as loaded even after confirming empty.
@@HughesEnterprises good rejoinder
@geffreyjewell6546 The title of this video was straightforward. Content was focused on restoring firearms. He did just that, by sharing his knowledge of removing rust without compromising the original finish. I appreciate video content that is actually relevant to description or title. Give me what the title describes... Quickly, clearly, and to the point! Hard to find that type of content via social media these days. I’d rather not waist time listing to irrelevant fluff / not learning just so I can get to the part in a video that I is relevant to my intended search.
I still need a 710 for my collection (and a 711 but that will never happen) so you have my complete attention. 😊
I had the CDV-711 instrumentation unit at one point but not the detector, I was stupid and sold it 😓
@@HughesEnterprises I know that feeling. At one point I had a bolt rifle and sidearm from every belligerent of WW2. Then less fortunate times happened. C'est la vie.
I know this is some years later, but, buy a progresive loader!! I could have loaded 150 rounds in the time you needed to do what you did. Probably good quality ammo though!
Yeah… still loading on the same press. I enjoy it though! I’d rather load 100 a day for a week than 700 on a progressive all at once.
I just got a mint 29-2 4 inch I don’t think I can fire it , it’s to nice 👍 I will just look at it 😂
Missing out though! They’re good shooters
Any suggestions for completely refurbishing an old German pistol from 1915 that looks pretty shitty? Has lost a lot of it color/bluing and has several spots of putting rust.
Best thing to do with it is remove the active rust and preserve the rest of it as-is with oil. Trying to fix it and make it look new will destroy any collector value it has left
In my experience the 100 grain federal loading is a handful in the lcrx and the sp-101 3”
It’s an extremely potent load, takes a few hundred to really get comfortable shooting it.
Will this work on a surface rust on a revolver?
Yes
Wat about aluminum foil
0000 steel wool is like $5 and actually works. Why risk it?
Well done man. I agree with you that all these tests are a bit extreme, but I also agree that there is no stopping the VP9. Great video and solid support for the VP9.
I won this gun at a bash this past weekend. I plan on carrying it loaded with 357. The factory wood grips just arent gonna cut it with 357 so I'm installing a Hogue Rubber Monogrip
I remember it shot best with the Remington 158gr SJHP HTP
@@HughesEnterprises i'll be on the lookout for that, thank you!
Over the last six months my dealer gets his .327 Mag orders filled quickly by Federal, I pay ~$1 per round in a box of 50. Not too shabby!
Dude, u actually have your dream gun. Get excited. So gloomy
Totally bogus. This guy has done nothing to remove any rust. It is not that easy. Please disregard this video.
So the hundred people that commented saying it worked are lying?
@@HughesEnterprises Removing rust takes effort. A thin lubricant like wd-40 is best and you have to put a little work into it, you can't just pass the steel wool over it a few times and wipe it off. Find a rusty piece of steel and try it.

Just got my VPL slide kit....apparently I put the VP9L slide on the frame wrong and its stuck and can't get it off. Pretty sure I didn't put it on the rails right....Any suggestions? I may have to bring it to my local gunsmith
I’m not sure how that could have happened, is it stuck locked back, midway, on an angle, not on the rear rails etc?
@@HughesEnterprises thanks for reply I got it! It wasnt seated on the rails properly, honestly dont even know how I did that but all good now!
Wow thanks. I have Marlin. 22 Golden that I've had just over 55 years. I have noticed a small amount of rust on the barrel even though I thoroughly wipe it down after each use. I'm so picky my kids know not to touch the metal. Good post.
I thought everyone knew this. First thing i ever tried. Pretty much the last thingvtoo, because it worked.
Got my Colt 3" Python through PSA and I must say it's a work of art. A piece of art that you can shoot! Glass trigger, no need to change anything on the trigger. The grips I had to change cause they just felt really bad in the hands. I got the rounded Altimont grips in black with the silver medallion to match the stainless steel. They really need to bring back the old school checkering on the handles. Got 2 Safariland speed reloaders that barely fit but after a while it worked. A bit heavy to carry, you'll need the right holster and belt to carry that weight. This is the holy grail of revolvers. What you really need is a second revolver for backup. Maybe the Colt Cobra 38 special +P with cutting hammer to get the double/single action.
If starting out, about how much does a reloading setup cost for .327 including all of the equipment and scale, etc.? And how much does it cost to reload a box of 50 .327s? Thanks!
Bare minimum for a press and dies, and scale, will be around $200. Today primers are a lot more expensive. $0.15 a primer, $0.03 for powder, $0.30 for a premium bullet. So around $0.50 a round. Sub in a cast bullet and it's $0.30 a round. Box of 50 $15-25
Especially with this cartridge, it would be a good idea to report the velocity extreme spread with each load, or just the velocity for each cartridge. I and others have seen high velocity swings...
Your process of reloading is very much like mine. I use a Frankfort hand primer tool. I weigh out each charge and trickle up to my desired charged. I use a variety of powders - Titegroup, HS-6, 2400, Unique to name a few I use. My powder throw measure is a Lyman, and I use a Dillon electric scale to verify. I never load the max.
Today, I loaded Titegroup powder into three of my 44 Mag cases. I topped them off with Hornady 180 gr HP bullets . Only one of my manuals had a recipe for Titegroup powder. According to Richard Lee's manual (2d Ed'n) I could go from 10.3 gr (1459 fps) to 11.5 gr (1544 fps) of Titegroup. So, I started low and worked up. I loaded one case with 10.0 gr, one with 10.3 gr, and with one with 10.5 gr. When I chronograped them, the 10.0 gr gave me 1315.2 fps. The 10.3 gr gave me 1374.5 fps and the 10.5 gr gave me 1392.2 fps. The revolver I used was a Ruger Redhawk, with 5.5 in barrel. The chrono I used was my new Garmin chronograph. The Garmin uses radar to get a bullet's speed, so I was able to set up inside my shed and shoot, while it rained, BTW - it has NEVER failed to get me the speed of a bullet (even my silenced Taurus .22 pistol) - I really like this Garmin even though it was expensive. Since I have room to increase the charge, later I'm gonna load 10.7 gr, 10.9 gr, and 11.1 gr and clock them. The three cases I shot today showed no signs of excessive pressure. My primers were plain old large pistol primers. I wish I knew what length barrel Lee used to get his speeds with. My 5.5 inch Redhawk was slower than whatever he used. Recoil was really nice. Ya'll take care.
I would not want her as a mom. 😂 I’m not saying one should enable their kids or spoil them to the point where they become completely entitled brats. I’m not saying that at all but this case the whole tough love thing is going a little too far in my opinion…
What?
My 357 can shoot some of the 38 super , but have not tried all of them but they are too expensive, but if you have a good 357 magnum, you can see what brand works, some will not fit and some will and it depends on the gun, but don't use it in a 38 special, only a 357 and if it works only for last resort, ,and 38 colt or 38 s&w , but the last 3 are hard to get and cost more,my 327 magnum can also shoot 32 acp and short, but they are not worth the price and trade off, but can be used if needed Had a 38 Super back in the day, and might get another, but there are better options today, but I have some of my left over ammo and it does work, have enough keeping 327 magnum and 357 sig and 30 mauser and 7.62 x25 ammo 🤠
My 327 magnum can also shoot 32 acp if you need to, but 32 acp and short are too expensive, even 32 long and magnum are not cheap either but they are easier to get them than 327 mag or 32 acp,
I now wonder - does this method only if there is blued finish below the rust, or can this also be applied to e.g. tools, household items? Will this basically remove the rust and make shiny steel shiny again, too?
Yes any rusty tool, guns are just one of many! People think they should be cared for specially, but a wood handled hammer will last 200 years if taken care of properly. You may just end up with pits or a dull spot once the rust is gone if there wasn’t a hard blue finish to start with.
Wow nice. Thanks for the tip
Thanks for watching!
I weigh a charge, take a case from the block (primer up position), charge the case, and seat a bullet (all the way). Then the round goes back into the loading block. Crimp is a separate step. I do not need to use a flashlight because I am charging with a weighed charge, and double charging is impossible.
Did this for my shotgun and it worked like a dream. So I just restored an older Sig pistol that the owner had thought completely lost, and it looks great! Rust is gone. I'm not a pro, complete noob at guns, but I have a passion for it. Thanks a ton! This is a frikken lifesaver! ❤
Thanks for sharing! Glad I could help save a couple more guns!
Any updates one this piece? In 2024 Is $900 a good price for one in mint condition with x100 357 ammo included?
Traded it a few years back! No that’s way too much, if you’re buying I wouldn’t pay more than $800 with ammo and that’s assuming unfired with factory box. Used with wear, no more than $700. There’s a bunch with no bids sitting on Gunbroker in the $7-750 range. Not collectable, not rare, so it’s going for below MSRP.
I just bought a used one in excellent condition for 575 plus taxes
My brother bought one a few years ago, shot it a little, then stored it in a safe. I recently bought it for $550. Love my Smith’s.
The blued version has gold medallions.
That’s true! All pythons pre-2005 have gold medallions. They haven’t produced a blue python since then.

Many do not understand the chemical process of blueing or Browning,,, both are a process of coating the hi carbon steel with a layer of deliberate oxidation,,, a chemical process,, using acids, and bases ,,, if that finish is compromised it depends on how bad, if it's into the blueing it's not so hard, if gets past that layer you get pitting, can be saved but will never be the same again,,,, on the out side,, the big question about fire arms is how do they shoot,,, I'll take a rusty old one hits on center over some clean looking one that wings off,,, I have a few, "nice " firearms, I take good care of, and others are utilitarian,, ,not too of the line, intended to get rained on and maybe Dusty siting in the corner next to the door,, 😮 a gun to.me is no.more than a toaster,, as an electrician for 3 decades, if seen so many fires and people die from,,,, because of toasters and space heaters ,, ,plugged into a fricking extension cord ,,, fires kill so many more people in the USA than guns do it isn't even funny,,, auto accidents ,, don't even get me started,, ,guns are not the issue,, ,it's society that allows kids to be things and gangsters,,, it's only in the big cities ,drug lords flood the streets with easy $ and lots of drugs ,, it's all a set up the certain side of opticians have always used as a pawn,, to get votes,,,
